Tickfaw State Park

Springfield, LA

This park is only 8-10 miles off I-12 to the northwest of New Orleans but it certainly feels like you are in the middle of nowhere.  The roads into the park were pretty primitive and had us worried we were not going where we were supposed to be.  While traveling west on I-12 we passed an exit that had signage for the park but our GPS wanted us to take the next exit a few miles later so we did.  That turned out to be a mistake as the final turn necessary to get to the park was very sharp (> 120 degrees) and the road was sloped such that we crossed a pretty severe hump while turning.  Those who know how 5th wheels are hooked know this is not ideal.  We did scrape a bit of paint off a piece of molding as it came into contact with the truck bed rails.  We suspect, had we taken the first exit, we would have approached this intersection from the other direction, entered with only a slight turn and been better off.

Magnolia Branch Wildlife Reserve

Atmore, AL

Our site at Magnolia Branch Wildlife Reserve

This stop was uneventful and after our last stop, that is probably a good thing.  We are on a 2 week leg of travel from Andersonville, GA to Spring Branch, TX, where we will be having solar power installed on the RV.  We have 4 stops planned along the way with this one being the first.  The park is very quiet with less than a half dozen RVers camped with a capacity of over 50.  Our site is a pull through that is very wide and extremely long.  We could probably fit 2 of our trucks in front of the RV with room to spare.  Normally, we can’t park the truck in front of the RV without sticking into the road.

Country Boys RV Park

Madison, GA

We wanted to break up our drive to our ultimate destination in Andersonville, GA for Thanksgiving and wanted to stay at Whitetail Ridge, another COE campground, as our final stop before Andersonville.  Looking for a place that divided the distance between Twin Lakes Campground and Whitetail Ridge, we found this campground that had availability and met the location criteria.  Besides that, there isn’t much good to say about the park.  We think it would make a nice one night stop as it is easy to get into and all the short-term sites are pull throughs.  Booking this location for 4 nights was probably a mistake but we are here and trying to make the best of it.
