After waiting out the high winds, it was time to move on and leave Death Valley behind. Our current plans were to work our way towards Sedona for some boondocking. We routed ourselves through the south side of Las Vegas with the intent of checking out Boulder City and Hoover Dam. We had heard about some nice boondocking opportunities on a dry lake bed near Jean, Nevada so we decided that would make a good first stop.

We left Sawtooth Canyon and headed for Sunset Campground in Death Valley National Park on Monday, February 24th. We arrived in the mid afternoon to warm weather and clear blue skies. We setup our RV to have our door facing the door of Jim & Corinne’s RV. Once we settled in and started to look at the things we wanted to do, we knew this was going to be an epic stay.

From Indio, we knew we wanted to head to Death Valley National Park but needed a place to stay along the route. Jim had located a free BLM campground south of Barstow, CA called Sawtooth Canyon Campground. After having some free waffles (available every Thursday morning at the RV resort) we hooked up and headed for some boondocking adventures.

After leaving Patagonia Lake State Park, we drove a short distance up I19 to spend a night in a casino parking lot. After unhooking, setting up the RV, and checking in with security, we headed out to get some laundry done. Once the laundry was done and put away, we met up with Dan and Mary for dinner at Manuel’s Mexican restaurant. This is a favorite of theirs and most of the staff knew them. We had a great time and plan to hook up again with them before we leave the southwest later this spring.
