Our last stop in Moab, UT was a decision point for us. We originally planned to make our way to South Dakota, our new state of residence, but we started to doubt the wisdom of moving further north this early. We were either going to stick with this plan or head a little south and go across southern Colorado and into Kansas and points east from there. After weighing our options, we decided to stick with the original plan and take our chances on the weather. The decision has had mixed results.

National Parks x 3
After leaving Panguitch and the Bryce Canyon National Park area, we headed toward Moab, UT with a 2-day stop in Torrey. Torrey is near Capitol Reef National Park and Moab is situated near Arches National Park and Canyonlands National Park. So over this past week, w, took several hikes in 3 separate National Parks.

Our stay in Kanab was relatively uneventful. We decided to not enter the lottery for permits to The Wave, in part due to the inclement weather occurring that day. It turned out to be a good thing as Dan was a bit under the weather and hiking was not a good idea.

With snow still on the ground in most of the Utah parks, we decided to spend extra time in the Page, AZ area. We’ve done a lot of interesting activities while we’ve been here. As a result, this posting will likely be longer than most of our other posts. We spent the first 3 days at Wahweap Campground with full hookups for $52/night and then we moved to Lone Rock Beach Campground for dispersed camping with no hookups at $14/night.

While at Escapade, we decided to take advantage of an opportunity to join the Elks with an accelerated initiation. All we needed to do is show up at the Elks lodge in Willcox, AZ on Tuesday, March 27 at 5:30 pm for the initiation ceremony, pay the annual dues and we would be in. Dan was among 75 other individuals from Escapade that decided to join. That meant we had to find something to do from Friday until Tuesday evening.
