Van Horn RV Park

We have come to realize some newbie mistakes that we have made so far in our first 3 months on the road. For example, we have learned that some RV parks are best served as one night stops to break up your drive and are not really intended for longer stays, like a week. This stop in Van Horn, as well as our previous stop in Fort Stockton, should have been for just one night. Had we done that at both locations we could be in southern Arizona already where it is a bit warmer than the upper 20’s to low 30’s we’ve been experiencing for the past 3 days.

Hill Top RV Park

We spent 5 days in First Stockton at the Hill Top RV Park. The park is nice and well kept but there really isn’t much to do around Fort Stockton. We spent most of our time in and around the RV and enjoyed a quiet Christmas Day with just the two of us.

San Angelo State Park

Now that we are past our solar install, we are making our way to Arizona and given the size of Texas, it will take us a few stops to get through the state. Our first stop is at San Angelo State Park, our first Texas state park camping experience. We have heard good things about camping in Texas state parks and this one has not disappointed. The sites are large and level with plenty of room between sites. We have now traveled far enough west that the landscape is very different with small trees, grassland, and cactus.

Solar at Spring Branch RV Park

Back in early August, I made arrangements to have solar power professionally installed on our RV the week of December 10th at Spring Branch RV Park in Spring Branch, TX. We arrived here on Sunday the 9th and our installer, Bill Murray, stopped by a couple hours later to look things over and formulate a game plan. At this time he left the six 180 watt panels and the two 300 amp hour batteries at our location. The installation would begin the next morning at 8:30 am.

Cut N Shoot RV Park

We decided to avoid traveling through Houston by routing north a bit and the obvious town to pass through was Conroe, TX. The first place we tried to book was full so we started looking at options and chose this RV park over the more expensive KOA. Amy didn’t realize when booking the park that the town was also named Cut And Shoot, albeit with “and” spelled out vs. ‘N’. This is a small rustic park, where most of the sites are occupied by full time residents in relatively old (>10 yrs) rigs. People do seem nice as we did talk to a few neighbors but weather kept our activities to a minimum.
