Our Trip West

Leo likes apple picking

For the second year in a row, we spent the 2 weeks following Labor Day weekend camped at Southwoods RV Park in Byron, NY. This location is very close to where we lived before retiring and allows us to visit the grandkids, their parents, and our friends from our years in the Rochester, NY area. We spent three consecutive weekends with the grandkids and filled our weekdays visiting friends and recovering from the weekends.

August in Maine

Dan, Becky, and John

As July turned into August, an emergency with the grandkids caused us to make an unplanned trip to Rochester, NY.  Our daughter has had a few emergencies since we’ve been on the road and this was the first time we could easily respond in person as we knew the RV would be safe and sound in Becky’s yard.  Both grandkids had a bout of RSV, the older being hospitalized as a result.  We got tons of quality time with 7 month old Willa as both parents stayed with Leo.  This quality time included contracting the RSV virus and putting us both under the weather.  It was a small price to pay help our daughter through a rough time.

Surprise Visits

The entire Knowles clan

For the week of the 4th here in Maine, we were surprised not once, but twice.

Family Time

Willa, Katie, Leo, and JC

Once again, it has been over a month since our last RVing blog post. I specify “RVing” blog post because we’ve created a second blog to cover our backpacking adventures. That blog will become much more active next spring and summer when we attempt to through hike the Appalachian Trail. Until then, you may see one or two posts on it as we work out the kinks of backpacking and sharing our experiences.

Service Time and Family

Michigan with Friends

Our plan to spend a week in Indiana before our service stop at MorRyde changed when we realized Indiana was on New York’s list of states requiring quarantine when entering New York from those states. Michigan was not on the list so we spent another week in southern Michigan. We informed our friends, John and Tina, of our changed plans and they decided to finish up their long stay in Michigan with us at Shamrock Park in Berrien Springs.
